Wind generator siting and zoning

From Great Lakes Wiki

Q: How are wind generators sited and zoned for development? Are wind generators going to spoil natural areas and vistas?
A: The procedures for wind energy system siting and zoning are different in the various states and provinces. In all, though, there are governmental procedures that need to be met and official hearings that allow for public input, prior to decisions being made about wind generator siting. Usually, a zoning agency has some authority to set the basic rules that will be applied. Within those rules, there are frequently many concerns that address the relationships between wind generators and nearby properties, people, and wildlife.
