Damaged ecosystems cause fresh water, food, fiber, natural medicines, and shelter to vanish at an alarming rate. This threatens the existence of indigenous communities, which comprise 370 million people in 70 countries. Conservation International (CI) works in bio-diverse rich areas to ensure natural resources are used without destroying ecosystems and traditional livelihoods.

After copious research, Vincent Grech undertook this detailed representation of the continents from a cultural perspective. The globe's foreground highlights "biodiversity hotspots," or areas containing the richest and most threatened reservoirs of plant and animal life on Earth. The background is a grid of lines, and, within the grids' spaces, Grech placed renderings of endangered plants and animals. Viewing the globe in person, it becomes easy to see how diverse and fragile the earth truly is. Globe Sponsor: The Crown Family / Conservation International
