Torch Lake

Torch Lake is located on the Keweenaw Peninsula in Houghton County, Michigan. Waste from copper mining, milling and smelting in the area from the 1890's through 1969 contaminated the lake and had a negative impact on lake's ecosystem. Designated a Superfund site in 1986, much work has been done to clean up Torch Lake and the surrounding area.
