Stoney Corners Wind Farm in Misaukee County, MichiganFrom Great Lakes WikiOctober 3, 2007 -- Ground was broken in Richland Township, Missaukee County, Michigan for Heritage's Stoney Corners Wind Farm. Construction began on the turbine sites, access roads, crane pads, foundations and electrical collection system. Heritage and Wolverine Power are also building the transmission interconnection substation. The Pilot Installation will be 5 megawatts (MW) of the 20 MW Phase One. Heritage plans to construct and place in utility service 8 - 2.5 MW wind turbines with a total capacity of up to 20 megawatts (MW) of electric generation. The first two 2.5 MW turbines from Fuhrländer are scheduled to be delivered in April 2008 for the Pilot Installation. Turbine locations are based on optimum wind resources, accessibility and minimizing impact upon farming activities. August 16, 2007 -- Detroit Edison issued a press release about the Stoney Corners Wind Farm. This project reportedly will utilize 2.5 megawatt wind generators manufactured by the German company, Furhlander. Over the course of a year, each one of these machines will produce and deliver to the grid enough electricity to serve the annual electricity needs for roughly 750 Michigan homes. Learn about these machines here. Here is background on other Great Lakes wind projects. |
