Mariposa Folk Festival (Orillia, Ontario)

Founded in 1961, this well known Canadian folk festival has gone through many evolutions and revolutions. It still brings in popular Canadian and American folk singers. Well knowns such as Gordon Lightfoot, Ian and Sylvia, Joni Mitchell, and James Taylor are a few who have passed through. Held in the hometown town of Gordon Lightfoot, Orillia, the name Mariposa comes from the fictional town in the book Sunshine sketches of a Little Town by Stephan Leacock. It is supposed that Mariposa is the really the fictional name for Orillia.
