Legislator's Perspective

From Great Lakes Wiki

Communicating with elected officials: A state legislator's perspective; Sen. Gerald Van Woerkom, Michigan State Senate
"We are at the receiving end of the context."
What Senator Van Woerkom, R-Norton Shores, was referring to is the role of politicians in the spectrum of communicating Great Lakes issues. They are at the opposite end from journalists in that politicians are citizens' last source for making an issue into legislation.
He offered two suggestions for being effective citizens: Be a voter and be credible. He said there needs to be a sense of urgency from the public and that they must have a clear goal.
