Lake Nipigon Hydroelectric Power

From Great Lakes Wiki

The Nipigon River, south of Lake Nipigon has three hydroelectric projects in operation. The Pine Portage Dam is 40 km north of the town of Nipigon. It has four turbines and was constructed between 1947 and 1954, but beginning partial operation in 1950. It has a 140 Mw production.

Twenty km south of the Pine Portage Dam is the seven-unit Cameron Falls Dam, which has an output of 77 Mw. The Cameron Falls Dam was built from 1918-1921 as a two-unit station and then expanded from 1924 to 1926 due to the power demand in the Thunder Bay for paper mills. The six unit station was expanded even further in 1958 and has remained in operation as a seven unit hydroelectric plant.

Only four km south of the Cameron Falls Dam is the Alexander Dam. Constructed in 1926 as a three-unit plant and undergoing expansions in 1945 and 1958 to become a five unit hydroelectric plant producing 66 Mw.
