Japanese knotweed

From Great Lakes Wiki

Japanese Knotweed is an invasive species of the Great Lakes. It is an ornamental plant from Japan, originally introduced in the U.S. for erosion control. Unfortunately, it can grow almost anywhere, survive in the poorest conditions, and outgrows native plants. It also affects animal life by growing in dense patches which don't allow large migrating animals like deer to get through. This hinders them especially from leaving rivers and streams, where Knotweed often grows heavily.
