Harvest Wind Farm in Huron County, Michigan

The Harvest Wind Farm in northern Huron County Michigan is a project of John Deere Wind Energy and Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative. It is part of a growing number of wind power projects in the Great Lakes region.

April 23, 2008: At a Michigan Wind Working Group meeting, presentations included: (1) Update on the Harvest Wind Farm by John Micele, Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative and (2) The Township Perspective on Harvest Wind Farm by Brion Dickens, Oliver Township.

August 23, 2007: The State Energy Office coordinated with Pigeon, Michigan, resident Brion Dickens to offer a tour of the Harvest Wind Farm and the small wind energy system installation at Laker Public Schools. Photos of the tour are available here.

August 1, 2007: These photos, by nearby resident Brion Dickens, show the beginnings of construction at the wind farm.

Our "human scale model" stands by the nacelle...the housing that holds the workings of the wind generator. The wind generator blades will attach to the rotor hub, shown on this end of the nacelle. Learn about the components of wind turbines at http://www.windpower.org/en/kids/intro/intronac.htm.

The giant crane gets ready to lift the sections of the steel tower into place. When finished, each steel tower is about 80 meters (250 feet) tall.
