Formed in East Lansing, Michigan (in part by two education students at Michigan State University, hence the name) specifically to compete in a battle of the bands, the Hard Lessons are now a well-known and successful rock band out of Detroit Michigan.

The band is made up of three musicians, usually performing under the aliases of Augie (guitar/vocals), Ko Ko Louise (keyboards/vocals), and The Anvil (drums). They have toured the United States extensively, as well as spent several stints in Europe.

Known for dual vocals and a sound informed as much by classic blues and soul as by more recent rock music, the Hard Lessons are possibly the most successful unsigned band in Detroit.
