Calanoid copepod

This species of small marine animal is a main supply of food for juvenile and larval fish. They are so important to fish that scientists have attempted to cultivate the Calanoid copeopod for the purpose of feeding fish. Discovered in 1958, It's release into Lake Ontario was by ships emptying ballast water. It is of low impact in The Great Lakes, and the only control methods being used right now is continued watch of population levels.
