From Great Lakes Wiki
Aquaculture is the practice of cultivating aquatic resources like fish and other aquatic organisms for sale on the commercial market. It is differentiated from fishing because of human effort to breed, maintain and raise the animals.
Criticism
- Many farmed species of fish are carnivorous, and it takes at least two pounds of wild fish to produce one pound of farm-raised fish. It is claimed that most fishing is done to maintain fish farms and not for human consumption.
- Fish are kept in higher concentrations than in the wild, leading to increased water pollution.
